FuseU1, sorry, I misunderstood you, since you are dealing with guitars, bass, keys, etc, then yes, that needs something else, and isn't anything I've messed with myself.

Yeah, I think my setup is too simplistic for your needs too. My mixer has built in reverb effects( choice of several reverbs) per channel, so I can choose which drum or cymbal has it or not. However, I used cool edit for adding better reverb sounds, from small rooms to huge amphitheaters. But, yes, I guess it wouldn't work from minidisc if you need to compress separate components. The way I did it, the mindisc recording went straight to cool edit, and then whichever compression I chose, it compressed the whole thing. Cool edit also has a multi tracker, but I've never used it and don't know how to use it yet. I just use the other interface which shows the waveform of the recorded minidisc recording, and then it's just a case of adding normalisation, compression, and effects.

i have an rme card, with 8 digital in's via lightpipe.

i belive m audio is coming out with a firewie 18/10 that's affordable with lightpipe on it.

for my pre's i have one of those behringer ada 8000 pre's. it's really amazing.who ever they ripped off for the design they did a great job.

it gives you 8 xlr or 1/4 inch analog ins. which gets converted to light pipe in to your computer. and takes 8 lightpipe channels out of your computer and converts them to 8 analog xlr outs.

it's cheap, but the pres are really good. however it doesn't have analog to analog conections within the unit.the analog ins go right to the lightpipe and the lightpipe from the computer go right to the xlr outs.

also check ou the digimax and digimax LT they are more expensive but may be better.

for mics the audix stuff is solid, i've used the audio technica kit pack before as well, cheap, but good.

for overheads,hihat check out studio projects c4's. i've got 2 sets and they are killer.

for software on a pc, steinberg stuff ie, cubase/nuendo are amazing, on a mac, logic and protools ,digital performer are good. don't get steinberg stuff for a mac. it sucks.

I've gotten decent sounding recordings using just 3 mic's on my kit. One for the kick and 2 overheads. The left side overhead is directly over the snare and out of your way. The right side overhead is over your right shoulder equidistant to the snare as the left overhead, both pointing at the center of the drumhead. Then, you pan the overheads left and right respectively. This should get you a centered snare sound and everything else in stereo. I don't have any examples to post right now, but will when I do.

M-Audio soundcards

i borrowed an M-Audio Delta 44 from a friend (for a recording project were doing) and it's a user friendly equipment and affordable too...

i also have here a Yamaha SW1000XG soundcard but the problem is, we lost the the Disc (Drivers & utilities) that comes with it.. [img]graemlins/cry_smile.gif[/img]


we also use CW PA9, Soundforge and Wavelab for editing ...
